One day in late July an email was sent out to the entire III MEF about an Army-sponsored trip to climb Mt Fuji. It said there were only 19 spots for Marines, so I immediately (over the protests of Sgt D) replied saying I wanted to go. The next day, I got a phone call saying my name was on the list and everybody that had to approve it approved it. Since I ended up not going to Korea, it was a good way to end my year in Japan! This photo is of our group the day we left to come back to Okinawa.
